My mom died after me taking care of her for three years with alzhiemers but before that my dad was in a nursing home for almost five years before she died and now medicade is saying her estate owes them 53,000 for his stay which will take her home which my daughter and her husband live in and they are saying we will have to purchase the property to keep it, is that true? We were silly and filed probate because of some money owed us for mom's stay in a nursing home for the last three weeks of her life and thats why this all happened.

Medicaid can place a lien on the property if your father was the owner of that property. The medicaid authorities will then sell off the property to recover the dues. As far as the medicaid laws of your state are concerned, you need to speak to an attorney.
