I am a co-signer on the mortgage with my husband on the home we live in. My mother in law is also on the loan and has been for 15 yrs. I am not on the title, tax, or insurance papers. I want to have my name taken off as a co signer. How can I go about it? If my name isn't on anything but the mortgage as co signer why should I be stay on the loan? I'm tired of being married to my mother in law!!!Ready to stop paying on this property... Evil or Very Mad Crying or Very sad

Hi kittys!

Welcome to forums!

As far as I know, to be a co-signer to a mortgage, your name should be on the title of the property. I think you should first check the property deeds and the mortgage docs properly. Check if you are a co-signer to the mortgage or not.

However as far as I know, there are 2 ways by which you can remove your name as a co-signer from the mortgage loan. Firstly, you can ask the lender to remove your name from the mortgage docs. But the chances are less that they would agree. The second way is for the loan to be refinanced. The person for whom you have co-signed the mortgage should refinance the loan. Thus, the loan will be paid in full and your name will not be on the new loan.

Feel free to ask if you have further queries.
