Hi nysa,

As a co-signer, your boyfriend is no less responsible for the loan than his step brother. Your boyfriend needs to refinance the loan in his name, if he wants to take over the responsibility of the loan. If he wants to get rid of the loan, he needs to get it refinanced in his step brother's name so his own name could be removed from the loan.

For similar discussion on this issue, you can refer to the page mentioned by Eric in the previos post.
