How long after completing a short sale on a home can you apply for a new mortgage?

Hi Stephanie,

You will have to wait for 2 years after a short sale to qualify for an FHA home loan. In order to get a conventional loan, you need to wait for about 3-4 years. However, if you do not have any late payments in your credit and if you have improved your credit scores since the time of the short sale, you may not have to wait that long to qualify.
