I had a house with my ex-husband. I was not on the mortgage but I am on the deed. After being divorced for over a year now, I am still on the deed and the subject of taxes is coming up now. When our taxes were mailed to him, my name was on it as well. Does this mean that I too am responsible for the taxes?

Normally the taxes are paid by the mortgage company but he has not made a mortgage payment in 11 months so naturally they aren't going to get paid by him. I was also wondering if I'm on the deed, can it still be foreclosed on or sold without my participation?

Thanks for any help you could give.

Amanda

Welcome Amanda,

If your name is on the property deed, then you would be responsible for the property taxes. You are equally responsible for the property taxes as your husband. The property can be foreclosed through your name is on the property deed. The property has been used as a collateral to get the mortgage. If your husband is unable to pay the mortgage, the property would be foreclosed upon.
