Hello, i just signed up for this site, because i have a question and dont know the easiest way to get this done. My grandfather died about 4 years ago, we had his deed in his house. Well about 2 years ago someone broke in and burned the house down. My Mother has been paying the taxes on the house for years now. But the deed burnt with the house, and have no will. How can we get the deed in her name. Thank you and please can someone help us. I dont want to loose this property i want my children to grow up there.

Hi tjmuniz,

Your mother can contact the local county recorder's office and get a duplicate copy of the property deed. Then, she can file an affidavit of heirship and get the property transferred in her name. Your mother can even contact a real estate attorney and take his opinion in this matter.

Take care.
