Several years ago my wife quit claimed her half of the house she co-owned with her mother per her brothers persistance. She thought that she had un-done the quit claim a couple of years ago. Yesterday we went to the bank and they informed us that she was on the deed but not on the mortgage and or responsible for the payment. We need to what will happen when her mother passes away; as she is in her late eighties and what we need to do now.

Hi rodocker!

Welcome to forums!

Your wife should ask her mother to sign a quitclaim deed and add her name to the property deed. This will make your wife one of the owners of the property. If her name is not added to the property deed, then she won't be able to claim any ownership in that property.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
