My husband died 18 mos. ago. We owned a home in Michigan with joint tenancy with rights of survivorship. I took his death certificate to the county and the township offices. I was told this would only take his name off the bill but not off the deed. I was informed to create a quit claim deed from him to me. Can you even do that for a dead person???

Joyce, I think you need to engage the services of an attorney to work this out. The township people aren't going to be experts at this sort of thing anyway. I'm not quite certain that you have to do anything specific with the deed, actually; but that's just my idle speculation.
