Hello -

About 12 years ago my mate and I bought a home. Her credit was used to secure the mortgage. I was never involved in the mortgage paperwork. We've since learned that at closing we could have had my name added to the deed, but being ignorant of that at the time we didn't. We both wish to add my name to the deed and have been under the impression we couldn't until the mortgage was satisfied. Reading your QuitClaim Deed info makes me wonder if we can do that now.

We're in Florida.
The house is still mortgaged.
She is the sole owner (w/the bank of course).
We wish to add my name to the deed without disturbing the mortgage.
We are not married and have no plans to marry.
Can we add my name to the deed and not disturb or alter the mortgage agreement?
Is so, how?

Thank you so much for your advice - Chris

Hi cctrop!

Welcome to forums!

You can add your name to the property deed by asking the other to sign a quitclaim deed. However, once your name is mentioned on the property deed, there are high chances that the lender will ask you to refinance the mortgage and add both the names to the mortgage documents.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
