property transfer

Posted on: 27th May, 2014 01:47 pm
I'm in N.J. both parents passed away 7-8 years ago , they were divorced and my father gave me his property in florida. I didn't get it transferred before he passed and it was not listed in the will. What do I have to do to have it put in my name. Property is free and clear. I have been paying taxes on it for a long time and just want to get rid of it. What are my options? thanks
You will need to go through probate court and show your rights to ownership- if there was no will it would go to the next of Kin -

Good Luck

Thanks Brian, I am in touch with an attorney .Property was not mentioned in his will as he gave us the deed but we never got it transferred before he passed away. We have been paying property taxes on the land for a while and want to get rid of it.
