| Separated 2 years, spouse laid off, went into full retirement, owes back taxes to IRS, makes monthly payments installments. Condo in both names, Spouse need retirement check for survival. If spouse file for Quit Claim and remove other spouse's name, will this stop IRS from holding a lien against property, if spouse decided to stop paying IRS. Aware that this does erase name from mortgage |

Hi Moore!
Welcome to forums!
A quitclaim deed does not help you in removing your name from the mortgage docs. It only transfers the ownership rights of the property. As both spouses were the owner of the property, though if one spouse's name is removed from the deed, still the IRS can place a lien.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

If there is no lien now and you transfer property, the IRS cannot get the property. However, if there is a lien now, the property will be transferred subject to the lien. _________________ Disclaimer: This is not legal advice and I am not your lawyer.
