I want to go on my son's deed that is mortgage free--can we just go to the courthouse to the Deed room where we could get this done? Then we would like to obtain a mortgag witjh both names on the deed

the first part - adding you as an owner of the property; and the third part - obtaining the mortgage; seem to be the easiest of the three tasks you mentioned. "going to the courthouse" isn't the most opportune method by which you'll do it however. i suggest you contact a real estate attorney, who can guide you through the paperwork and any potential ramifications. you can begin the mortgage search as quickly as you'd like - no need to wait for the deed to be filed, though you won't be able to close on that loan until it is (perhaps a simultaneous transaction).
