Me and my boyfriend got this house together in 2006. I have been living here with him helping pay the all the bills of the house.. I have been trying to get him to put my name on the house for along time. He just came to me and asked if he could just put my name on the deed but not the mortgage. I dont know if I should do that because ive put so much money, time, energy and stress into it and I dont want to lose out on what im owed if our relationship doesnt work out. Would I be entitled to any repayment if something happens latter on in our relationship if my name is only on the deed?

Hi s_teph,

If your name is added to the property deed and not to the mortgage, then you would become the owner of the property but won't be liable for the mortgage dues. You won't be responsible for paying the mortgage dues if you and your boyfriend split in the future.

Thanks
