Hi,
I have struggled making my student loan payments and my co-signer (gdfather) just died. There is a small estate to be divided between my mother's sisters.
I am not in default but was not eligible for a forbearance. Do I need to tell the bank my grandfather died? What can my mother expect will happen to the estate? My aunts will likely be livid if the estate is held liable.
Thanks for your input.
John

Hi Guest!

Welcome to forums!

You may inform the lender about the death of the co-signer. As the co-signer has died, you would be solely liable for paying off the student loan in full. If you're unable to pay the dues, your grandfather's estate may become liable to pay off the dues.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
