My nephew quitclaimed his home, located in Detroit, to me for a large loan. He has repaid the loan and now we are attempting to quit claim it back to him. I experienced no problems getting the the property deeded to me but I am having problems deeding it back. The deed has been returned to me three times for one thing or another. Now they are asking for an exemption code. I'm thinking it has to do with me putting $0 consideration. (as no money is involved). Where would I get the exemption codes for Detroit? I would call the deed office in Detroit but I have already been told they are not there to answer questions and that I should contact an attorney, which I do not have funds for.

Thank you. I would appreciate any help.

Hi cricks,

It would be better if you could contact an attorney and get to know the details from him. He will help you in filling out the deed as well as let you know the exemption codes.

They should provide you with a list of the codes. Then choose one that applies to your situation, if any.
