Hi my grandmum died more than 30 yrs now and she did not leave will or deed but my aunt and uncle had somehow made themselves executors of the land. All my mum's siblings are dead and she is the only one who currently lives on the property and pays all taxes. How does she go about getting a deed on her name and what's an approximate cost of all this? What's the procedure?

Hi dimplie,

If there is no will or deed, then your uncle and aunt cannot claim the property as theirs or declare themselves as executors of her property. Your mother and all her siblings can claim their rights on that property. I think your uncle and aunt have taken some illegal steps to declare themselves as the executor of the property. It would be better if your mother consults a legal expert in this regard.

Thanks

yes, indeed, a legal expert - read: attorney - is appropriate in this situation. let it be someone who is conversant with estates, however. don't go get a garden variety lawyer whose main area of expertise is chasing skirts in the office.

sorry...that just came out.
