my brother and i are joint tenants on a property. The property was paid off a few years ago. i recently got married and wish to purchase my brother's interest in the home so i can have the home to myself. How do go about to get my brother's name off the deed? and does my wife have to sign anything?

Hi palmpilot!

Welcome to forums!

Your brother needs to sign a warranty deed and transfer his share of the property to you. You can even offer him an amount of money in order to transfer the property to you and your wife.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

Hey palmpilot!

Just to add to sussane's post, your wife does not necessarily have to sign anything. The house can be 100% under your name, however you will be liable for any upkeep, payments, etc. If your wife puts her name down on the deed as well, she will own 50% of the property and all of the property liabilities will be shared.

Hope this helped!
