removing name from joint mortgage

Posted on: 27th Feb, 2009 11:57 am
My flat is in joint names as is the motgage (shared ownership, i.e. we had bought 50% and we rent 50%) with my ex wife and I. Now we are divorced how do i get my wife's name off the mortgage? She also wants her name off. I think i have to enlist the help of a solicitor and pay a lot of money to do this. Or can i quit claim??? and then do i need to contact the mortgage lender?
Thanks
colin, my presumption is that you live in the UK. is that right? most of us here are in the US, so i'll hope you get some response from someone who knows.

it's helpful to know where you're located when you ask a question, since laws vary from location to location.

"my presumption is that you live in the UK."

how you figured it out whether she is from UK? if you have mastered the art to know just by 4 lines post you come to know the location of the person then it's superbly great. hey!! i am not kidding or making fun of it rather appreciating it..

tell me that how you have figured it out!!

"my flat" and "solicitor" are common terminology, yes; but not in the united states. i've seen enough british television (and vacationed there twice) that phrases like those stick out.

plus...i'm educated. LOL
