my mother-in-law has a cabin that is in her name. When she dies, it will be shared among her four children and a step child. She wants to remove the step child from having anything to do with it, what does she need to do to get that person out of any shares of the cabin?

Hi alice,

You will have to ask your boyfriend to sign a quit claim deed in order to transfer the property to you. This will help you in removing his name from the property deed.

Thanks

alice, if he isn't cooperative with your children or with the mortgage as it is, it may be a reasonably easy thing to eliminate him from the title and loan, but you're going to have to have good persuasive power, i am sure. if you run into obstacles in his cooperation or lack thereof, you may find it necessary to take the matter into court. it might be worth your trouble right now to consult with an attorney to see what your options are.
