I am recently married to a divorced man who purchased our home before we were married. He wants to add me to the deed of his house would a quitclaim deed work for us? Second question, He owes money to his ex-wife according to their divorce agreement. If he can not pay can they pursue the process of placing a lien against our home? Can I become liable for his debt as well because of our marriage?

Hi Brownpat!

Welcome to forums!

Yes, your husband can add your name to the deed of the property by the help of a quitclaim deed. If he cannot pay the money to his ex-wife, she can definitely place a lien on the property. Adding your name to the property deed will not make you liable for the mortgage payments. You will only be liable for the payments if your name is on the mortgage docs.

Feel free to ask if you have further queries.

Hi,
You are married with person means you have share with your husband property. You can add your name in deed by quit claim

A quit claim deed allows the owner to sign over all ownership and financial interests in a property. quit claim deed is usefull in a divorce situation, where one party is granting the other full rights to, and eliminating any interest in.

Your husband owes money to his ex-wife according to his divorce agreement. If he can not pay then she will place a lien on the property. But for that you need to find what is actually on agreement.

I hope you understand.

Thanks
Dilip
