I was living with my partner and both our names were on the deed. Only my name was on the mortgage since I lived here before she moved in. We broke up last year and I gave her $80K to give me my deed back..which she did. Can I claim that $80,000 on my income tax as a loss? Thanks

In my opinion you have to negotiate with your income tax officer. Normally its not it will not be recorded as your loss in income tax record.

Thanks.
