My ex and I purchased a house in 1999. Her name only was on the mortgage. In September of 2008, I quit claimed the property to her. She refinanced the property in December of 2008. I've now received a Real Estate Conveyance Tax Recomputation from the state. Am I responsible for paying this tax (along with penalty and interest)?

Thank you

Hi Guest,

As you have signed the quitclaim deed and transferred the property to your ex, you will be liable for paying the Real Estate Conveyance Tax Re-computation.

Thanks,

Jerry

Welcome BlueDog,

Well... I won't be able to tell you that. Nevertheless, you can get in touch with a real estate attorney and he/she might help you in this matter.
