Person has final divorce decree. House went to spouse. Spouse is paying off some credit card bills. Can he put lien on the house for those bills that were charged by former wife.

Welcome Doehlman,

If a person has quitclaimed house to someone else, he does not have the right to place a lien. The creditor can instead place a line in case the spouse does not fully pay off the credit card bills.

Hi Doehlman,

Welcome to the forum.

Is this a mortgaged property? If so you may have to take responsibility of the mortgage payments as you are the present of the house.

I agree with Adonis that the person cannot place any lien but if there is any due debt, the creditor may place lien.

Best of luck.
Larry
