I was divorced in july of 2010. I received the house in the divorce. My wife signed a quit claim deed and I refinanced the house in my name. My question is related to my taxes. She wants to claim 50% of the interest that we paid in the year of 2010. Is she entitled to claim this interest on her taxes or did she forfit the right when she signed the quit claim deed?

Hi iowaguy,

I don't think your wife will be able to claim 50% of the taxes. Nevertheless, you and your wife should have a word with a tax adviser and take his opinion in this matter.

Thanks,

Jerry
