I have received a divorce from my husband for spousal abuse. He is in jail waiting to be transferred to prison, I gave up the house in the divorce and he was supposed to remove my name from the deed. He has not held up to his responsibility and I need to know what I need to do. Also, the mortgage used to be in both names, but he has refinanced several times and I think he has removed my name from the mortgage. Can I still be held responsible for the mortgage and property taxes in this case? I think the title is in both of our names and I know the property tax bill comes in both names, does signing papers to transfer remove my name from all responsibility?

Hi Guest!

Welcome to forums!

Your husband cannot remove your name from the property deed. You will have to sign a quitclaim deed and transfer the property to your husband. If the mortgage docs does not have your name mentioned, then you're not personally liable for the loan.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
