Hi, My mom has a small peice of land that i have been paying the taxs on for 6+ years and would now like to transfur this property to my name would a quit claim deed be the way to go?

Yes. Be sure it gets recorded. Ask a local Title Company to assist you with it - they'll charge a minimal fee and it'll get done right.

But what if an accident happens and you die? You need to prepare for that and ensure Title goes back to Mom smoothly. The easiest way to do that is use "Mom or Son" when the Quit Claim is prepared. That way, if you pass first, she still holds Title. Or if she passes first, you hold Title. The Title folks will know how to prepare it properly.
