Aloha,

I added my ex-fiance on the title to my apartment. We broke up, he left and his whereabouts are unknown. He has not contributed financially. I would like to file something to get him off the title. He is not on the mortgage. When I did have contact with him about 6 months ago, he refused to sign a quitclaim. Is there any other way to get him off??? I am not in a position to sell, as the apartment is worth less than I paid and I spent a lot to renovate. By the way, I put $30,000 down payment and I really don't want him to end up with any of that money, as he is not entitled, in my opinion. Thanks for any help!

Mahalo

Hi Guest,

Unless your ex-fiance signs a quit claim deed and transfers the property to you, he would still be considered as one of the owners of the property. You will have to contact him and convince him to sign the deed and transfer the property to you.

Take care.
