I WAS DIVORCED ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO THE HOME WAS NOT MENTIONED ON THE DIVORCE PAPERS I WANT TO GET MY NAME OFF THE NOTE MY EXWIFE SAID IF I WOULD SIGN A QUIK DEED I WOULD GET MY NAME OFF THE HOME AND THE MORGAGE IT WOULD NOT SHOW UP ON MY CREDIT REPORT AND I WOULD BE FREE OF ALL FROM THIS HOME SHE STILL LIVES IN THE HOME ,IS ALL I"VE SAID CORRECT.THANKS CALVIN
Hi CALVIN,

If you sign the quitclaim deed you can get your name off the title to the property, but to get it off the mortgage, signing the deed is not enough. Your ex needs to get it refinanced in her name to remove yours from the mortgage. Otherwise, your name would be off the title, but you would still be responsible for the loan.

quitclaim will only serve the purpose of the releiving from the title of the property not from the obligation towards the mortgage so i would recommande you that you should first refinance the property on your ex-wife's name and then only go ahead with quitclaim.
