Can a quickclaim deed be used to change a non-profit org name

Posted on: 28th Feb, 2009 06:20 pm
Our non-profit organization quick claimed the property for the purpose of name change. Can this quick claim be reversed and reinstate the old corporate name? If the old name is restored, will all rights and privileges be restored?
This is really a tricky question rather. i will suggest you (as it's really complex) to better consult with any good attorney regarding this as the laws concerning for the commercial properties and for those NGO's are totally different.

One need to be a specialist in this subject to answer the question of this types to be solved.

Hi reloade,

The quitclaim deed can be reversed to reinstate the old corporate name. The organisation with its new name needs to quitclaim the deed as grantor to the same organisation with its old name as grantee. However, I don't think the change in name can restore the previous rights and privileges of the organisation. You can consult an attorney while drafting a reverse quitclaim deed and he can tell you exactly whether the old rights can be restored.

Hi manoj,

I also think a change of name is possible through a quitclaim deed, as is suggested by Alessandro. However, this may not restore the rights of the previous organization. Only a lawyer can clearly tell that as the laws regarding a non-profit organization can be different.
