In a divorce is the quit claim deed what is needed to sign over property to the ex-spouse?

We have grown children and are friends - and the property (paid for) bears both our names. I have paid the taxes on it since the divorce (12 yrs ago) - bill comes in my name. I live in GA and the property is in Alabama. He told me to just get a quit claim deed (whatever we need) and he would sign it. What do I do? He has another spouse. Thanks in advance for your help!
