Stock Holders' Equity is alternatively known as book value. It is the sum of proceeds from the issuance of stock and retained earnings minus amounts paid to repurchase common shares, also known as the total equity ownership by the stockholders of the corporation.

Facts:
This is the total left over assets a company will have if it decides to go out of the business immediately. It indicates how well a firm uses its retained earnings. Since profit generation and growth is normally what is expected by the companies to attain in future, usually many companies take it as their target to concentrate more in the market place then their suggested stock holder equity.
