I am in Tennessee. Are mortgage companies required "BY LAW" to provide a flood certification? If you were given a flood certification stating that you are not in a flood zone but to find out later that you were from the beginning, is there a statue of limitation that the flood certification company could be held liable for misrepresentation.

Hi bharris,

If you are residing in a flood zone, then you should have a flood certification for the same. Flood certification is a real estate document which states the flood zone status of real property. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) flood maps are examined using the address or geographic coordinates of the property in order to decide the flood zone. I'm not sure about the SOL period for suing the flood certification company. You can contact an attorney and he may help you in getting more information in this regard.

Thanks,

Jerry
