My husband is purchasing property in TN. We are Ohio residents. We have always kept our credit separate- he owns a business and my credit isn't that great and he has excellent credit. When the documents came to sign, they listed "Borrower" under my name. We have bought houses in GA, and OH, and I have always had to sign, but never as a borrower. The loan should be in his name only. I am trying to avoid having our credit linked. My husband will probably be building a new building in the next 5 years and I don't want my credit affecting his. So far we have never come across this. The bank loan officer can't explain to me why I must be listed as a borrower. Doesn't make sense to me!! Help!

you need to have "the bank loan officer" get off his or her posterior and have his boss contact you with an explanation. for you not to receive an explanation is ridiculous. i don't know the first thing about the laws of tennessee, but that may be the reason you're listed as borrower. nevertheless, it is the lender's business and they ought to know why they require something. it's unconscionable for them to give you directions without justification.
