Hi anitaestrada,

As far as I know, the time period required to occupy a property as adverse possession in Texas is 10 years. Moreover, you will have to pay the taxes for the property for at least 5 years. The landowner may be able to challenge the possession of the property for 25 years. However, in my opinion, it would be better if you could contact an attorney from Texas who is an expert in this field and take his suggestion. He will be the best person to let you know the laws of the state.

Thanks
