My suggestion would be to speak with a local broker and talk about the position of loan officer. Then see if they would be willing to train you.

Thanks for the info. Do you think it is possible to get into the business on a part time basis initially to get my feet wet, then go full time when it appears that I can make the income I require?

I think thats quite possible.

Lot of people who work as Realtor work part time and same can apply here.
