I will be three payments behind on my mortgage payments the end of November. Is there a agency in Dallas, TX that would help me? I retired and loss some of my income, and at this time I am actively looking for work in order to help me with my debt.

I tried my mortgage company and requested a loan modification and because of the reduction in my income they suggested a Short Sale of my home.

I do not want to lose my home, I've been here 32 years. I just need help until I can find a part-time or full time job to supplement my retirement and social security income.

As of this date, I have not found a job. I need help to catch up with at lease (2) payments.

Thanks,

Betty Singleton

Hi bettysingleton,

You can contact your own lender and apply for a loan modification as you want to save your property. If the lender accepts your request, then you will get better rates and terms to pay off the loan and save the property. However, as you don't have a job, I don't think the lender will be ready to help you. You may have to sell off the property.

Thanks

Betty, I think you'd be wise to check with the local HUD office to find a counseling center that would try to assist you. That's no guarantee that you'll be able to stave off the hounds, of course; but it's a good first step in solving the problem. In the meantime, of course, I'm sure you'll land a job somewhere that will enable you to begin to catch up on the overdue amounts.

If there's a NACA office nearby, you can check in with them as well. Your lender will try to hold off as long as possible, but it won't be forever.

Keep bugging them about a possible modification - it might not reach the right ears the first time, but eventually you can have hope that someone will hear your cry and answer it.

I wish you the best in this endeavor.
