I purchased a home in my name over twelve years ago but it was for my sister. She has made all of the payments and taxes on the home since she has lived there from the beginning. Now she has paid the home off and retired and I would like to get the home in her name. We filled out a Quit Claim Deed and want to file it in Harris County, Texas. Where do we go to do this?

Thank you,
Judy Boyer

Hi Judy,

As the property is free and clear, you can use a warranty deed in order to get the property transferred in your sister's name. You can contact an attorney and he will help you in drafting the deed and filling it out. Once you fill out the deed, you will have to record the deed at the county recorder's office where the property is located.
