Which type of mortgage is it?

If it is a home equity loan then it cannot be refinanced more than once a year.

Hi Torres,

Normally one can refinance within two years or less. Some homeowners may be able to refinance in less than a year if they are dedicated to pay off the loan amount. Generally it's not a good idea to refinance often.

I will be getting a conventional loan on a new property because my VA is tied up in my current property. We are selling our current property and want to know if we can refinance the conventional loan to a new VA loan when our home sells. It may be within a few months.

Welcome janie,

If you are selling off the property, then you cannot refinance the loan on that property anymore. The person who is buying the property will have to refinance the loan in his name.
