I am in the middle of a divorce. It will be finalized toward the middle of September.....I was only married 1 year to my soon to be ex husband...my question is...what are my responsibilities on the mortage. The house was in his before we were married and in May of this year, he refinanced the home with my name on the deed of trust. Do I not have any interest in the property because of the small amount of time we were married? I live in Conroe, Texas.

Hi Guest,

You will have interest in the property if you were added to the property title. As far as adding your name to the deed of trust is concerned, as your name is on the mortgage doc, you are liable to pay off the mortgage dues along with your husband. In case, if your husband defaults the loan, the lender can come after you for the mortgage dues.

Thanks
