i own a house that is upside down on the mortgage. i live in washington state. i want to do a quick sale to sell the house so we can both move on but my X refuses to do one. she moved out of the house and left me to pay all the bills. i want to release all interest in the house so that i can move on with my life. What are my options?

Hi Cevebed,

You can buy out your ex-spouse so that she transfers the property to you. Then you can sell off the property and move on with your life. If she's not ready for that, then you have the option of filing a partition lawsuit. The court will order the sale of the property. After the sale, the mortgage will be paid off first and if there's any profit, it'll be divided amongst both of you.

that would seem to be appropriate, though i think it might be smart to give your ex-wife another opportunity to come through.
