we are closing Friday but need to charge credit card for home appliance. once settlement company has set closing is charging credit an issue?

I think it is better to avoid charging your credit card immediately before your mortgage closing. Since the new mortgage rules have come into effect, the lenders have become extremely stringent about lending. Hence, it is better to avoid charging your credit cards.
