Can a contractor put lien on my house

Posted on: 16th Dec, 2010 10:30 am
Hello, I recently have a roofing company to put a new roof on our house. We gave them a 50% down payment and was told that they will finish the work in one day. But the work went on for 6 days and still have not finished. During these 6 days, they did not tarp the unfinished the part properly and caused leak in our house and damaged insualtion and dry wall ceiling that we just finished. On the 6th day, one of their work tried to put the cent stack that they took it out previous day without authorization back into the house and broke the cent stack between the second and first floor. They had altercation with my husband and we both agreed that we should part our ways. We had someone else finished the work and repaired the vent stack. Now the roofing company is threating that they will sue and put lien on our house if we don't pay additional money. Do they have legal ground to put lien on our house?

Thank you,
Hi lihx,

It is not that easy to place a lien on a property. The roofing company will have to file a lawsuit against you and get a judgment in order to place a lien on your property. As they have violated their own terms and conditions and have damaged your property, you can always win the case against them. I will suggest you to contact an attorney and take legal help in this matter.
