Property has a 10 year warranty

Posted on: 14th Mar, 2009 08:46 am
I bought a manufacture home and purchase property for the home. I have a form HUD-92900-A, under additional conditions a box is check which states property has a 10 year warranty. I know what I would like for it to mean, wonder if someone can give me a better clarification of this
The original manufacturer warranty is usually for 1 year. FHA and VA requires an extended warranty of 2 years for mechanical and 10 years for structural. This is not insurance but a warranty against manufacture defects and damage during tarnsport and installation. I beleive some of them even include the foundation if installed by the dealer or other contractor recommended by the dealer or manufacturer.

I hope this helps.

Our house is 11 months old. We had an inspector come out and inspect our house. He found several problems. How long does the builder have to complete these repairs? Does he have the right to refuse? We have an FHA loan.

Hello Helen,

You may have to read your warranty information. Each manufacturer may have their own policies for warranty claims. Keep in mind, they will only repair problems that were a result of deficiencies in the manufacturing process and not the result of owner abuse or negligence similar to that of a warranty on your car. I assume you are still referring to a manufactured home and not a standard frame built home. That is a completely different monster.
