I filed Chapter 13, What Now?

Posted on: 24th Oct, 2007 12:52 pm
I filed Chapter 13 to save my home but, can someone explain to me what happens now that I've filed. The reason I ask is because my only bank took back my debit/mastercharge card, locking access to my own money. I do have a ATM card now that they issued yesterday. I have direct deposit with them and I'm afraid they will lock my access to my monies. To avoid this, I tried to open an account at another credit union today and they said because i filed bankruptcy, they cannot help me?

Can anyone shed some light on this subject please?
Hi Isacmar,

If the credit union or bank loses money due to your bankruptcy, then they will ask you to close your account. Generally bank does not do so unless you have a series of NSF checks.

The reason your bank took your debit card is to restrict you on further usage of the card for making payments and purchases. Otherwise with the help of your ATM card you can get access to your money.
