Making Housing Happen: Faith-based Affordable Housing Models

Posted on: 10th Jul, 2007 11:43 am
Congregations & faith-based groups often want to address the national affordable housing crisis but feel helpless in the face of this confusing & daunting task. This book gives workable solutions, illustrated by true stories which inspire and provide theological basis for the housing administration.

Each illustrative story in the book features a different model of how it is possible to achieve affordability, in different geographic locations across United States.

Miller
I have read the book and it is very informative. Like it gives stats about the affordability people have, as one bedroom apartments at FMR (Fair Market Rent) requires wage of $13.23/hr while current federal minimum wage is at $5.15/hr. So there is clear shortage of affordable housing in most of the states.

Authors have reviewed and analyzed the award winning best practice housing models in this book. Those who have created these models contributed in this book by writing about their own journey into affordable housing, about how they funded their projects & the lessons they learned.

I was going through the link Miller provided for the book and would certainly like to purchase it.

The book is indeed very good and author has used all information that is available on this topic to properly organize his book.

Affordable housing is what many are concerned with. Apart from going through the useful information provided in this book those interested in knowing few other things should read more on this subject from HUD's web site.

Housing & Urban development department is also concerned about providing affordable housing and in that direction there have been many programs introduced by HUD's office of affordable housing. These are HOME, SHOP & Homeownership Zone.

Those interested in knowing more about these programs can check the following HUD page which describes these programs: Affordable Housing.
