i am going thru the same situation.. i dabble in taxes.. but i entered all my info and i know box 5 on the 1099a is checked.. it shows i owe around $20,000.. ouch.. and i i check no on box 5 i get a refund of $3000 or so.. i know i need to fill out form 982 and i know i will need to mark yes on box 5 of the 1099a.. does this mean i will not get a refund???..

Did you go through a foreclosure? I will suggest you to contact a real estate attorney and take his opinion in this matter. He will go through the form and let you know whether or not you will be able to get a refund.
