checking account question

Posted on: 15th Dec, 2007 05:01 am
I will receive checks and will prefer not to pay fees at the local check cashing place. If I get a checking account, can I deposit checks there and then take out money without any fee? Is this account meant for writing for checks?
Frederick do you mean checks from your Equity Line of credit? If so I highly recommend you open an account for depositing your checks and then being able to withdraw funds without paying fees. Washington Mutual offers free checking online if you would like to save some money and hastle.

Hello Frederick,

A checking account is meant for easy access to your funds. You can deposit checks and withdraw funds from this account without paying any fees. But if you write a check with an amount more than the available funds, then you will have to pay fees for that and even legal actions might be taken against you.

Alex offers good advice, just be sure to check availability of ATM's and branches of Washington Mutual in your state. They do offer great accounts/programs but in some states they do not offer many locations.

You have a lot of options these days with checking accounts, or if you just prefer a card, the prepaids are nice or the paypal system. You can have your checks deposited into them just like any other account.

Be aware of the atm fees with any account though and the availability of the atms in your area, you want to make sure that you have access to your money.
