after closing how do you put moms name on deed

Posted on: 31st Mar, 2008 09:54 am
after my husband died my son wanted me to move closer to him. Our agreement was that he would include his brother and myself as part owners. We gave him one hundred thousand dollars and he paid the rest. When I sell my home in another state I said i would put that money toward the new home near him. His reason was he didn't have time to draw up the papers needed before closing. At 78 I feel I have no security. what should I do to protect my interest?
Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

Have you given the money already? Do you have any prove on that? You should have a written document that you have given him the money.

Your son can add you and his brother on the deed by using a quitclaim deed. Ask him to add both of you on the deed as you have given such lump sum money to him. It is not very time consuming. If he cannot do it then his brother can do it for you. But he will need to sign the quitclaim deed as a grantor. And then you can notarize and record the deed in the County Recorders office to make the deed valid.

You can take help form an attorney.

Feel free to ask if you have any farther questions.

Best of luck,
Larry
