Remove Disputes from Credit Report? Need help.

Posted on: 10th Oct, 2010 08:50 am
Looking for advice that anyone has in dealing with TransUnion and Equifax/CSC to remove credit disputes from credit report quickly. I had problems with an FHA loan and had to convert to conventional. FHA would overlook disputed items on my credit report, however, that is not true with a conventional loan. I have successfully removed 2 disputed with Experian, 1 dispute with TransUnion and NO disputes with Equifax. Long story short, I am looking for assistance in removing one dispute with TransUnion and one dispute with Equifax/CSC. Has anyone else in the community had a similar problem in the last 2 weeks of their loan process and do you have any advice at all in a soeedy dispute removal w/ the credit bureaus?

Thanks
Hi zincyellowcobra,

You have disputed various other items on your credit report and have removed them from your credit report. You will have to take similar steps in order to remove other negative items from your credit report.

Thanks

I am attempting to remove disputes of negative items, not the negative items themselves. I do not have time to go through the normal investigation process with the credit bureaus as I am to close on Oct 22.

Thanks

Good news - I received a letter today from HSBC stating that I am not disputing the account. I faxed a copy of HSBC's letter to TransUnion this afternoon requesting that TransUnion immediately remove the dispute status from my credit file.

I also faxed a copy of Portfolio Recovery's letter to Equifax today, although I do not think the letter Portfolio Recovery provided meets Equifax's stringent criteria. I should have a definite answer on that tomorrow. Equifax confirmed receipt today and advised that they would need another 24 hours to review and render a decision.

Keeping fingers crossed.

I just hope that you can remove the disputed item from your credit report asap!!! :-)

I am still having a terrible time with Equifax/CSC. I faxed a copy of the fax/letter I received from Portfolio Recovery stating that they are removing the dispute - and Equifax rejected the letter.

On a good note, I sent HSBC's letter to TransUnion on Monday afternoon and as of Tuesday afternoon, that dispute is no longer shown on my TU report.

So, as now, I have to get that one last dispute removed from my Equifax credit file - and it is the Portfolio Recovery acct. My LO is working on his end to help resolve this problem with Equifax.

Has anyone else had this same issue with Equifax/CSC Credit Svcs?

Hi zincyellowcobra,

I don't have a personal experience working with Equifax/CSC Credit Services. However as your loan officer is working on it, then we can hope that your issue will be resolved soon.

I'm going through a similar situation. I've been advised by my mortgage company to remove a couple of disputes that I had previously requested for my Equifax report, these were requested to close some old accounts and to update the balance on others, obviously thinking this would be for my credit score advantage. They are concerned that since even though they all have been resolved they might result in been denied when our loan is entered in the FHA system. Anybody going through this situation? Anyway to get this done through Equifax or am I better off going straight to the Account holders, even though they are old accounts? I will appreciate someone's assistance. Thanks!

Hi Hector,

In my opinion, you should first directly contact Equifax and try to remove the disputed item from your credit report. If the credit bureau is not ready to help you in this matter, then you should contact the creditor and check out if they can help you in this matter.

Thanks

I am in the midst of doing that and the only way i have found to do it is to actually call the creditor and asking them to fax it to you its frustrating because some of the people that you will talk to will have no clue what you are talking about... But here is the best thing if your raise enough hell they will send it out asap....

Hi, I too am having the same problem. To me, it is UNFAIR practices that you should be forced to have a dispute removed pending a loan. We have the right to dispute on our credit file inaccuracies. I am going to see an attorney about it next week. Equifax is the hardest. My husband and myself gave up on it after they wanted us to lie to a creditor on the phone that we were not disputing it. I feel they went to far, b/c we are disputing due to a major inaccuracy on the credit report.

I am currently dealing with a similar situation. I had an account I disputed a few years ago but was then cleared up shortly after I disputed it in 2008. This has since been removed from all credit bureaus but Equifax. This is the last item holding up my loan. I received a letter from the creditor stating this should not be on my credit report but Equifax stated it will take 30 days to investigate. Do you know if the bank will accept the letter from my creditor or does the dispute have to be removed from my credit report?

Hi Guest!

Welcome to forums!

I think the bank will accept the letter and may give you the loan. You should write the letter and contact the lender informing him about your situation. There are chances that you may get the loan.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

They're a pain to deal with. There is just no way around that. Send them the dispute by registered mail. A lender may allow you to still get a loan if they know you are disputing your negative credit item though.

Different answers to the same question...not usually very helpful, especially when one is off-track completely.

With a lender providing a letter concerning an account that is on a credit report, virtually all lenders will look upon the letter as satisfactory evidence and move forward. Those who don't do so are somewhat neanderthal.

WE are going through the SAME crap, FHA underwriters WILL NOT except our credit score as accurate as long as there are disputes on your credit accounts. Had to do an extension to give us time to try and fix the problem. So far we are having hell with Trans Union removing the "Dispute Language" from ONE account. We have the official letter from creditor stating dispute is resolved they sent info to Trans Union, but everyone is telling us it could take 5 to 30 days to actually remove!!!! We have 12 working days to get final approval. We asked about showing the documentation to the lender stating the dispute is over....they will not except!!! So I guess they are neanderthals!!! STUPID, STUPID rules....we may not get this house because of this dumb stipulation and along with it, lose our Ernest money and our extension fee!!!
