How do I add my wife to our home title?

Posted on: 29th Aug, 2007 10:32 am
My wife moved into the house I owned before we were married. I would like to add her name to OUR home. What do I have to do. Is there a charge for this?
hi bellamyt,

you can use a quit claim deed to add her name to title of the house. but if there is a mortgage then you might have to consult with your lender about it first on whether it will be necessary to refinance because of the change in title ownership.

Yes, a quit claim deed can be used to include your wife to the title of the house.

If you need more information on how a quit claim deed can be used for this purpose then kindly go through the following page: Transferring the property-interest through Quit Claim Deed

Thanks

Hi Bellamyt,

To add you wife to the title of the property, you can use a quitclaim deed. After signing the deed, she will be the new co-owner to the property.

You will be charged with a fee of around $10- $15 for recording the deed in the County Recorder's office. The attorney who will guide you through the process will also charge a fee. But that will differ from one attorney to the other.

expect about $100-200 total cost and any title company can do this quitclaim will give your wife interest in the property but wont put her on the mortgage.

Hi Guest!

Welcome to forums!

You can use a warranty deed in order to add your partner's name to the property. You can contact an attorney and he will help you in getting the warranty deed drafted.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
